PTO COMMITTEES GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Committee Review – Communicate with the previous year chair to review committee specifics. PTO Board Officers are available as contacts and for information and support.
  • Manage your Budget – The PTO Treasurer will communicate budgets for your committees. Review the Treasurer Guidelines for Committee Chairs.
  • End of Year Report - Keep records on activities, ideas, needs and spending for your committee throughout the year for use in creating your end of year report as Committee Chair.
Note that most committee information is communicated via email blasts or this website.  For any mass photocopying required, see the WPS Production Center guidelines.

ALPHABETICAL COMMITTEE LISTING:
Art Appreciation for K-3 grades
Coordinate parents to lead art presentations to students in support of the curriculum, Sprague Art Teacher provides training and materials (2 presentations)  
Auction
Plan and manage the biennial event, including volunteers, location, food, and donations
(biennial event, TBD by Chair, usually in March)
August Mailing
Work with Principal and PTO Board to compile summer mailing to Sprague families (July/Aug) 
Book Fair 
Plan and manage the Scholastic Book Fair, book presentation and sales
(TBD by Chair, usually Nov date)
Box Tops
Plan and manage the Box Tops for Education program, collections for redemption
(Three mailings in October/February/June)
Car Line Bulletin
Update bulletin board (weekly Sept to June)
Classroom Help & Field Trip Chaperone for all grades
Note that various opportunities may arise throughout the year in your child's classroom. These opportunities will be communicated either via the Room Parent or the Teacher. (as needed)
Community Reading Day for all grades
Recruit local community members to read to students, coordinate purchase of books, coffee for readers and thank yous (spring TBD)
Cookie Walk
Plan and manage the annual cookie walk, including bakers, volunteers, and sales (Dec)
Cradles to Crayons
Collect clothes and toys, part of the town-wide donation drive (Nov)
Creative Arts and Sciences for all grades
Coordinate school-wide and grade specific programs that complement the curriculum, welcoming performers, scientists and authors (ongoing Sept to June)
Directory
Update and proofread info for school directory, coordinate printing and distribution (Sept)
Email Blast 
Format school-wide email blasts, including weekly Sprague Pulse newsletter (weekly Sept to June)
Environmental Education for K-4 grades
Coordinate parents to lead hands-on outdoor nature walks to enhance the curriculum, training for volunteers is provided and no science experience required (2 walks, in fall and spring)
Family Festival
Plan Sunday afternoon social event with kid activities (October)
Family Ice Cream Social
Plan Friday evening social event within two weeks of school starting (Sept)
Family Picnic
Plan afternoon/evening social event (June)
Family Portraits
Publicize family portrait sittings, presence not required for sittings (fall dates set by Coffee Pond)
Family Ski Trip
Plan weekend ski social getaway (winter)
Field Day for all grades
Coordinate parent volunteers to direct and help with game activities organized by Sprague PE Teacher (June)
Fifth Grade Activities
Plan and coordinate fundraising and activities, work with Yearbook committee on fifth grade section (ongoing Sept to June)
Gift Wrap
Plan and manage the gift wrap catalog sale, including collecting payments and arranging order/distribution (Sept/Oct)
Guided Reading Library
Maintain teachers’ leveled guided reading books (monthly Sept to June)
Health and Safety
Coordinate health and safety concerns, liaison to the School Nurse and Central Council Safety Committee (as needed Sept to June)
Heartbeat
Publish and distribute periodic PTO newsletter (Aug issue and periodic Sept to June as needed)
Heartsongs
Organize and layout student literary and art magazine, printing and distribution (Mar to May)
HEART Team
Plan structured activities for students to cultivate HEART (Helping, Effort, Acceptance, Respect, Teamwork) values, including the UNICEF Halloween event (TBD by Chair)
Isaac’s Team
Provide support and a helping hand to the Sprague Community (as needed)
Kindergarten Library for K grade only
Coordinate volunteers to assist classes in selecting books and aid Librarian in shelving and book checkout (weekly Sept to June)
Lost and Found
Organize lost and found items for return or donation  (ongoing Sept to June)
New Family Welcome
Coordinate contacts to answer questions and offer support for families new to Sprague, including Kindergarten families, and organize get acquainted socials 
(Ongoing but busiest August to September)
Parent Social
Plan Friday evening event held in a non-auction year (winter/spring)
Parent Welcome
Provide refreshments for morning social (first day of school)
PTO Volunteers
Recruit volunteers, manage volunteer list and committee information.
(ongoing but busiest Apr to June)
Pysanky Eggs for 3rd grade only
Plan egg design and decorating project and coordinate parent volunteers, in conjunction with Russian curriculum study (TBD by Chair with Teachers)
Remember Me Books
Work with Sprague Librarian to publicize and manage book donations, maintain the Remember Me bulletin board (ongoing Aug to June)
Room Parents for all grades
Help with class activities requested by teachers and with grade specific Parent Social, organize class gifts, provide occasional support for school-wide events (ongoing Aug to June)
School Pictures
Plan and manage picture day at school for class and individual student pictures

SEED Fest
Plan child-based activity fair with discovery science and environmental theme (TBD by Chair)
SEED Team
For SEED (Sprague Energy and Environmental Defenders), organize earth friendly activities that inspire students to make a positive environmental impact and to Renew/Reuse/Recycle

Shop for Sprague
Gift card sales program where a portion of proceeds is earned by Sprague, plan and manage program, including collecting payments and card order/distribution

Sprague Grounds Beautification
Plan, plant, and maintain gardens around the school in coordination with Building Staff
(late Aug clean up, fall and spring)
Sprague Spirit Shop
Plan and manage the sale of Sprague merchandise (ongoing Sept to June)
Student Game Night
Plan and coordinate game activity social nights, by grade level (TBD by Chair)
Summer Readers’ Breakfast for 1-5 grades
Organize breakfast, volunteers and recognition certificates to celebrate students’ summer reading

Teacher Appreciation
Plan and coordinate volunteers for teacher luncheons
(2 lunches, in Sept and June, and TBD by Chair)
Walk to School for all grades
Coordinate volunteers to sign in students on walk to school days (monthly Sept to June)
Web Site
Monitor the school calendar and update website, draft/edit copy for new pages

Wellesley Books
Portion of Wellesley Books sales is donated to Sprague, plan and publicize event

Wellesley Parade
Coordinate student participation in the Wellesley Parade, create and design a theme and float

Wellesley Townsman
Work with Principal/PTO to write four articles on the Sprague Community for the Wellesley Townsman (Sept to June according to Townsman schedule)
