PTO President Corner
Welcome to the 2020/21 school year!
As PTO Co-Presidents, we would like to welcome you to school. We hope you have all had a relaxing summer, and you are now ready for an innovative school year. The hybrid and remote learning models being implemented this Fall are new for everyone, and as such, present unique challenges - they require all of us to be as communicative, supportive and creative as possible. We can do it!
The uncertainty created by the pandemic has made it especially challenging to fill this year’s PTO roles. Marissa was one of last year’s Co-Presidents and has agreed to stay on to see Sprague through this interesting and unprecedented year. She is mom to Max (8th at WMS), Jane (6th at WMS) and Kate (3JL). She encouraged Jeni Dymek, mom to Abby (8th at WMS) and Evan (5NB) to join her as Co-President in overseeing the basic operations of the PTO’s mission. Linda Abazaj, mom to Aidan (6th at WMS) and William (2KC) has also generously agreed to stay on as our Treasurer. Thank you, Linda!
This year, the PTO supports Sprague with a $40,000 operating budget, the bulk of which is funded by family contributions. Our goal is to raise as much as possible through the Annual Appeal (again, more information forthcoming) as many of our fundraising events have had or will have to be postponed or reimagined. The majority of this budget is allocated toward:
Student Enrichment (visiting authors, grade level programming, all school assemblies, literacy and STEM programming and more)
Teacher Support (classroom materials, professional development, library materials, learning center support and more)
The PTO budget also supports social and community building events, an online and print student/family directory, and much, much more.
We are looking for others to join us and will provide information about opportunities in the near future. There are so many opportunities to get involved - no effort is too small. We need all hands on deck!
Our wish for this school year is to maintain as much open communication as possible to support this wonderful community that fosters Sprague’s H.E.A.R.T. values. Given that we have both only recently decided to commit to these roles, we appreciate your patience as we put together the Fall communications and plans. And certainly reach out to us if you are willing to help in any way!
More information will be coming shortly, but most importantly, welcome to the 2020/2021 Sprague school year!
All best wishes,
Marissa & Jeni
